RUSHING ALPHA DELTA PHI

Candidacy Process

Agoge

The Eliot Chapter of the Alpha Delta Phi distinguishes ourselves through our unique candidacy program, Agoge.

Candidates and brothers often reminisce that Agoge was the best and most formative experience of their freshmen year. The program aims to help candidates develop themselves while striving towards our chapter’s core values: scholarship, integrity, growth, humility, tradition, and service.

After accepting a bid, the candidacy process begins. For eight weeks, candidates learn the traditions and history of the fraternity and our founder, Br. Samuel Eells. Through participating in fraternity social events, philanthropic endeavors, and specific Agoge programming, candidates engage in multi-faceted development.

Candidates learn valuable public speaking, leadership, and career skills through sessions lead by the Candidate Director, professors from WashU, and the Career Center.

A core component of the Agoge process is pledge-mentorship. Candidates select an older brother within the Chapter, who becomes a mentor, best friend, and guide through the process.  Weekly study hours and academic tutoring help candidates stay on top of their academics.

The most popular events include:

§  Explore St. Louis Day, in which candidates and brothers go see the best sights St. Louis has to offer coupled with a night outing to Ted Drewes

§  Candidate Lectures, in which candidates give a talk of their choosing in a public forum setting

If Agoge seems like a good fit for you, come by and visit us during Rush - we’d love to chat.
