Rush is the process at the beginning of each semester during which prospective brothers attend events to get to know the brotherhood. Through organized rush events like BBQs, bowling, and poker, rushees and brothers have a low pressure opportunity to learn about one another.
In the event that the chapter is interested in having you join, they will extend you a "bid," or offer for trial membership. By accepting a bid, you signal that you are also interested in joining us.
After accepting the bid, you enter our eight-week candidacy process. These eight weeks are an an at-will period whereby if the candidate no longer wishes to join the brotherhood, they may stop at any time, and if the brotherhood decides that the candidate is not a great fit, he may be asked to leave the candidacy process.
WashU Fraternities hold rush twice a year, in the spring and fall. Our spring rush is open to all male undergraduates of the Washington University community who are not currently in a social fraternity. Our fall rush is open to all male undergraduates of Washington University, excluding freshmen.
WashU has an excellent Greek community with a number of great fraternities and sororities, and we encourage you to accept a bid from the house that you "fit" the best with. No fraternity or sorority at Washington University discriminates based on race, belief, or sexual orientation.
